About the role
We are seeking a Staff Product Designer for Design Systems to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead defining and designing our design system and facilitate enablement and adoption of it, leveraging your exceptional creative skills and design expertise to spearhead our design initiatives and evolve our current design system to more effectively empower our product teams to deliver high-quality experiences at scale across our product. You will be collaborating closely with cross-functional partner teams, you will be responsible for ensuring our product designs align with both business objectives and user requirements, while shaping the overall aesthetics, functionality, and usability of our products.
What You’ll Do:
- Define system strategy and architecture; create performant UI components, token strategies, scalable patterns; ensure parity between design environments and production code; and deliver accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA+)
- Design, prototype, and document components, tokens, UI patterns, and other design system aspects; while partnering closely with engineering for robust implementation.
- Establish governance of design quality, UI standards, and brand integrity throughout the product lifecycle; enable contributions that empower to evolve the system without breaking coherence.
- Manage the Design System as an internal product; proactively identify opportunities, defining the roadmap, prioritizing based on product team needs, and communicating updates to stakeholders.
- Quantify and evangelize the value of the system; track and improve adoption rates, velocity, and design quality.
- Partner with the Product Design Team, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners through product development lifecycle to define and drive a transformation of all our products’ user interfaces to be high-quality cohesive experiences with comprehensive attention to visual and interaction details.
- Treat designers and engineers as your primary customers; conduct internal research to optimize the adoption and documentation experience of the system.
- Act as mentor of designers; fostering a culture of craft, learning, and inclusive collaboration by sharing best practices, emerging design patterns and tooling, and examples of design quality to instill UI excellence within the design team.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in visual interaction design & process.
- Passionate about crafting exceptional user experiences, highly curious, a future thinker, and always interested in learning more about complex topics and getting up to speed quickly
- Proficiency in design (primarily Figma), prototyping tools, and design system tooling (i.e. Storybook) and expertise in component architecture, design tokens, platform guidelines (iOS, Android), and accessibility standards.
- You have a familiarity with web technologies such as HTML/CSS/Javascript. Bonus points if you are familiar with React JS or other emerging frontend frameworks and technologies.
- Strong understanding and proven experience of user-centered design principles, end-to-end customer workflows and ability to transform new users into habitual users.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated experience in project leadership and team mentorship.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide team members, providing constructive feedback and support to foster professional growth and development.
- You are extremely aware of the latest developments in AI & Search technologies, and stay up to date on a fast moving industry.
