Job Description

The Global Tax Director in a few Words:

We are seeking an experienced Global Tax Director to lead all aspects of the Group’s global tax function. Reporting to the Group CFO, this role is responsible for overseeing tax strategy, risk management, compliance, and reporting across all jurisdictions in which we operate.

The Global Tax Director will lead and develop the global tax team, including direct oversight of the Senior Advisor, Global Tax and Compliance, and partnership with regional tax resources. This role will play a key part in shaping the Group’s tax structure and supporting business growth through thoughtful, practical tax leadership.

Averna’s highly interconnected and evolving business model—driven by extensive intercompany transactions—creates a rich and challenging transfer pricing landscape that is both strategic and engaging. As our sales models continue to evolve, the role also involves close collaboration with sales and operation to design and implement optimal project structures.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-growing, international environment, offering the opportunity to drive meaningful impact across the organization.

Your Contribution in This Role:

  • Lead and develop the global tax function, including direct oversight of the Senior Advisor, Global Tax and Compliance, and coordination with regional tax resources across North America and other jurisdictions
  • Oversee transfer pricing policies and documentation, ensuring alignment with evolving business operations and regulatory requirements; recommend and implement changes for new or complex transactions
  • Establish scalable processes, controls, and documentation to support a growing, multinational business, ensuring clarity of roles and accountability within the tax function
  • Own the Group’s global tax strategy, including identifying opportunities to optimize the overall tax structure, minimize risk, and support commercial objectives
  • Evaluate and advise on the tax implications of treasury initiatives, including repatriation strategies, intercompany financing, and cash management
  • Provide tax input on business initiatives, including pre-sales structuring, contracting, and invoicing, with a focus on indirect tax and withholding tax considerations
  • Lead the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integrations, including restructuring initiatives across jurisdictions
  • Maintain and support the Group’s positions across corporate tax, indirect tax, and R&D credits, including coordination with external advisors and internal stakeholders
  • Oversee global tax compliance, including review of filings and coordination with external advisors and team members in local countries
  • Own the annual and monthly global tax provision for consolidated financial reporting and manage the relationships with the financial statement auditors for the global tax provision.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities, including oversight of audits, responses, and dispute resolution as they arise
  • Oversee global cash tax forecasting and installment planning
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impacts to the business; update internal documentation and provide guidance and training to relevant stakeholders
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls across the tax function
  • Maintain and update documentation for tax attributes including share basis/adjusted cost base, surplus calculations for foreign affiliates, earnings & profits calculations where applicable.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate in a few words:

  • Professional accounting or tax designation (e.g., CPA, CA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent) in a relevant jurisdiction; advanced tax qualifications (such as CPA Canada In-Depth, Master of Taxation, or JD) would be considered an asset
  • At least 10 years of corporate tax experience in a multinational & multicurrency company, including significant exposure to cross-border operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in international tax principles, including transfer pricing, controlled foreign corporation regimes, participation exemptions, and withholding tax.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to design and implement tax strategies that are well aligned with business needs.
  • Knowledge of U.S. corporate tax, including inbound and outbound taxation, would be an asset.
  • Experience operating within a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional structure, with the ability to oversee tax matters across multiple countries through a combination of internal coordination and external advisors
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex international tax concepts into practical, business-oriented recommendations for senior stakeholders
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing team members and influencing cross-functional stakeholders in a global organization
  • Experience with tax provisions under IFRS in a multinational environment
  • Strong judgment and prioritization skills, with the ability to focus on material risks and opportunities in a complex and evolving environment, including frequent non-routine projects
  • Experience supporting M&A transactions, restructurings, and post-acquisition integration activities
  • Familiar with indirect tax and global compliance frameworks, with the ability to oversee rather than execute in all jurisdictions
