About the Role
We are hiring a Senior AI Developer who is passionate about electronics!
This developer will play an early and foundational role in improving AI tools at Cadstrom that support our mission of being the best and fastest way to validate and debug an electrical design before building it.
Your first mission will be to iterate on LLM-based pipelines that extract structured electrical-component data from manufacturer datasheets, such as pinouts, absolute maximum ratings, and signal drive characteristics. You’ll work with complex multi-modal data (e.g. graphs, tables, cross-referenced text, parameters buried deep in application notes), “turn the cranks” on our experimentation framework, dig deep into failure modes, and ship incremental improvements that compound over time.
If you’re detail-obsessed, passionate about using AI to advance the field of electrical engineering, and are excited to learn from a talented group of peers while making meaningful contributions to the stack, we want to meet you!
What are we doing?
We are accelerating the world's hardware ingenuity by blending generative AI, ML, and novel approaches to electronics simulation and validation. We're providing our enthusiastic pilot customers intelligent and automated access to the most advanced validation tools to eliminate respins – helping engineers of all levels deliver their designs faster, cheaper, and with less waste.
Who are we?
We are a small team of innovators who are passionate about fundamentally improving how electrical engineers deliver electronics with higher confidence. We are backed by Bison Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, and the Allen Institute for AI's Incubator. Our distinguished founders are responsible for creating the largest product development firm in the US, and building Azure Quantum (and more!) at Microsoft. We know you'll be in good company.
Key Responsibilities
By the end of your first 3 months, you will have…
  1. Built, run, and improved LLM-based extraction workflows using our internal experimentation framework, applying the scientific method to each iteration with clear hypotheses, baselines, and measurable outcomes, while working within compute and token constraints.
  2. Dug deeply into model outputs and traces to diagnose failure modes, document root causes, and propose data- or prompt-level fixes.
  3. Collaborated closely with electrical engineers to internalize domain conventions, notation, and edge cases, translating that understanding into better prompt alignment and evaluation clarity.
  4. Integrated into the team’s rhythm, communicating findings clearly, scoping tasks with realistic acceptance criteria, and following clean coding and review practices.
By the end of your first 6 months, you will have…
  1. Driven measurable performance improvements by enhancing prompts, schemas, and task composition (e.g. via context engineering, RAG, validation feedback loops, MCP/agentic workflows), and other known methods of practice.
  2. Proactively contributed meaningful upgrades to our experimentation tooling to accelerate iteration while keeping results reproducible.
  3. Curated and maintained reliable benchmark datasets as our AI scope and task granularity evolves.
  4. Brought visibility to model performance by building dashboards and metrics pipelines that track extraction accuracy and drift over time in our live system.
By the end of your first 12 months, you will be a trusted technical collaborator, known for your detail-oriented debugging, thoughtful experimentation, and ability to partner fluidly with both electrical engineers and developers on Cadstrom’s next big AI challenges.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-4 years of hands-on experience in AI/ML or applied data engineering with shipped work in production or active pilot.
  • Practical experience with LLMs (prompt engineering, few-shot/ICL, RAG, or agentic patterns) and an interest in multi-modal inputs (PDFs, tables, figures).
  • Strong Python or TypeScript fundamentals (including typing, packaging, services, automated tests); willingness to code in TypeScript (with the help of code agents to make the transition) if coming from a predominantly Python background.
  • Strong grasp of experiment design and hygiene: how to ensure reproducibility, prove significance, choose appropriate metrics, and curate ground truth datasets.
  • Git proficiency and collaborative dev habits (peer reviews, readable self-documenting code).
  • Evidence of meticulous attention to detail and structured thinking, especially in debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Excellent written and visual communication; you can summarize a messy problem into a crisp next-steps plan and use plots/figures appropriately to convey insights and trends.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • The ideal candidate learns fast, asks great questions, and can balance curiosity with disciplined iteration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with electronics fundamentals (e.g. being able to interpret the contents of a datasheet) as evidenced by academic coursework or equivalent hobbyist experience.
  • Experience with retrieval (vector DBs), chunking/embedding strategies, and context budgeting.
  • Experience with LLM-ops platforms and development tools (e.g. LangSmith, LangFuse, DSpy)
  • Prior work with MCP-style or agentic orchestration, tools, and function calling.
  • Experience building data pipelines in a cloud environment (e.g. AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • A research-based Master’s degree in any STEM field is a plus.
  • Experience working in a startup environment
