Why This Role Matters

This role helps support the technical foundation behind Citrine’s platform and engineering organization. The person in this role will contribute to infrastructure and deployment systems that are observable, reliable, scalable, and aligned with the needs of a growing team.

About the Role

Citrine Informatics is looking for a Senior Infrastructure / Platform Engineer to help shape, implement, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure and platform systems. This role is a fit for someone with experience across infrastructure, automation, deployment, and production operations, and who enjoys working closely with others to improve reliability, developer workflows, and platform capabilities.

This person will contribute to cloud infrastructure in AWS, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes operations, CI/CD, observability, and containerization. Just as important, they will bring sound judgment, adaptability, and a collaborative working style suited to a fast-moving environment where priorities can evolve and teams work together to solve complex problems.

Team Fit and Working Style

We are looking for someone who pairs technical depth with a collaborative and thoughtful approach to problem-solving. Successful candidates will likely bring:

  • Experience working closely with others in shared technical environments
  • A communication style that supports productive collaboration, knowledge sharing, and healthy decision-making
  • Comfort making progress in situations where not every variable is known at the outset
  • A practical, iterative mindset and willingness to learn as the team moves forward
  • Flexibility to take on a range of responsibilities depending on team priorities and current challenges
  • Good judgment in managing time, scope, and competing priorities

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS with attention to scalability, reliability, security, and automation
  • Manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, including hands-on work with Terraform and experience with CloudFormation
  • Deploy, administer, and maintain Kubernetes clusters in production environments
  • Improve platform tooling, deployment workflows, and operational practices that support engineering teams and production systems
  • Implement and manage observability and monitoring solutions, ideally including experience with Datadog, across metrics, logging, alerting, and incident response
  • Work with containerized systems and deployment workflows, including image build pipelines and optimization techniques
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including required experience with GitHub Actions; experience with Jenkins and/or ArgoCD is a plus
  • Partner with teammates across engineering to identify needs, evaluate options, and deliver practical infrastructure and platform solutions
  • Investigate platform and infrastructure issues, support root-cause analysis, and contribute to sustainable improvements
  • Participate in technical planning, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement efforts across the platform engineering function

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or site reliability engineering roles
  • Hands-on experience working in AWS production environments, preferably experience using CloudFormation
  • Meaningful hands-on expertise with Terraform, including writing and managing infrastructure beyond basic exposure
  • Experience implementing observability and monitoring practices, preferably with Datadog
  • Production experience with Kubernetes administration and deployment, including cluster deployment, configuration, and maintenance
  • Experience with container build and deployment systems, including image optimization techniques such as layer management and efficient build strategies
  • Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines, especially with GitHub Actions
  • Experience contributing to the design and deployment of infrastructure or platform systems from implementation through production operations
  • Comfort working through technical challenges in environments where priorities and requirements may continue to evolve

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments with small, collaborative teams
  • Exposure to platform engineering practices such as developer enablement, internal tooling, and operational maturity initiatives
  • Experience balancing near-term delivery with longer-term maintainability
  • Studies have shown that women and underrepresented minorities are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification listed. Citrine Informatics is invested in creating a diverse, authentic, and inclusive team, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t perfectly align with what you read above, please consider applying anyway!
