Description

The Experience:

Salesforce is seeking a visionary Senior Director of Technical Product Strategy to join our Product Strategy & Innovation team. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the intersection of long-range market dynamics, multi-year product positioning, and complex technical architecture—defining not just what Salesforce builds next, but why, where to invest, and how to scale the platform footprint.

Reporting directly to the SVP of Product Strategy, you will serve as a key architect of our forward-looking technology thesis. Rather than managing sprint backlogs, feature prioritization, or short-term execution roadmaps, you will lead and grow a team of technical product strategists charged with identifying emerging white spaces, evaluating build-buy-partner choices, and translating macro market shifts into durable enterprise platform strategies.

This role sits far above tactical feature delivery. We are looking for a strategy leader who moves ahead of trends—someone who proactively surfaces structural portfolio gaps, stress-tests multi-year technical investments, and establishes the strategic frameworks that will define our enterprise platform for the next decade.

From shaping the long-term productization pathways for core capabilities—spanning trust infrastructure, workflow automation, and agentic AI architectures—to framing investment theses around high-growth sectors like supply chain agentification, developer tooling, and AI-native systems of record, you will ensure Salesforce invests in the right bets, at the right time, with the right commercial and technical models.

What You'll Actually Be Doing:

  • Define Long-Range Product Strategy: Lead macro product strategy, whitespace identification, and multi-year positioning frameworks across Salesforce's enterprise AI and platform portfolio.

  • Architect Productization Pathways: Shape the strategic transition of internal technical capabilities—trust infrastructure, workflow automation, agentic AI, and data platforms—into standalone product lines or platform-integrated offerings.

  • Drive Build-Buy-Partner Frameworks: Own and evolve structural decision frameworks for build vs. buy vs. partner evaluations, defining optimal platform integration timelines versus independent go-to-market strategies.

  • Translate Market & Tech Paradigms: Assess foundational shifts—including agentic coding, AI-native application architectures, supply chain automation, and open-source ecosystems—and translate them into executive-level investment theses.

  • Identify Portfolio Gaps: Partner with the SVP to proactively map portfolio vulnerabilities and market opportunities, establishing strategic coverage well beyond reactive competitive analysis.

  • Synthesize Cross-Functional Signals: Integrate technical research, engineering capabilities, market intelligence, and M&A trends to build defensible points of view on long-term bets.

  • Assess Market Viability: Conduct rigorous market sizing, economic modelling, and structural competitive analysis to justify capital allocation and strategic pivots.

  • Guide Global Strategy Expansion: Partner with regional leadership to adapt Salesforce's platform strategy for European markets, accounting for local regulatory frameworks, competitive moats, and entry strategies.

  • Evaluate Go-to-Market Models: Establish framework models—open source, platform-bundled, standalone SaaS, API-first—balancing long-term monetization, developer adoption, and defensibility.

  • Monitor Horizon Signals: Track venture capital inflows, developer ecosystem shifts, and emerging research to capitalize on tech paradigms before they become industry consensus.

  • Advise Executive Leadership: Present structured, data-driven strategic choices and investment options directly to the SVP and executive leadership.

  • Scale the Strategy Organization: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing technical strategy team, establishing scalable practices for horizon scanning and opportunity evaluation.

You're Our Person If You Have:

  • 12+ years of experience spanning product strategy, technology strategy, corporate strategy, or strategic product management at a leading cloud platform or enterprise software company.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience building and directing teams of 3+ strategists, technical market analysts, or senior product leaders in ambiguous environments.

  • Deep structural understanding of enterprise AI/ML architectures, agentic systems, and platform integration patterns, with a focus on strategic differentiation rather than daily execution.

  • Strong architectural fluency in enterprise systems of record, data platforms, and SaaS infrastructure, including how AI layers alter long-term software economics.

  • Expertise in business model design, including the trade-offs across open-source, proprietary, platform-native, and standalone API commercialization models.

  • Direct experience framing M&A strategy, including thesis development, market entry strategy, or build-buy-partner evaluations.

  • Exemplary executive communication skills, with a track record of framing complex, multi-variable strategic analyses for executive teams and boards.

  • High comfort with ambiguity, possessing the intellectual rigor to define unconstrained problem spaces and frame actionable hypotheses.

Even Better If You Have:

  • Experience leading technical strategy or corporate innovation at an AI-first company, platform vendor, or top-tier technology strategy consultancy.

  • Deep familiarization with developer platform ecosystems, AI-assisted software development, and modern developer tooling moats.

  • Strategic domain knowledge in enterprise supply chain automation, process agentification, or vertical AI applications.

  • A proven track record of originating novel investment theses and productization strategies from first principles.

  • Background in venture capital, corporate development, or tech investment, with an ability to map funding signals to enterprise platform opportunities.

  • A builder's mindset focused on framing new markets, business models, and organizational strategies rather than optimizing existing product backlogs.

  • Experience crafting both offensive GTM strategies and defensive portfolio positioning.

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) in a business or technical field, though demonstrated strategic outcomes remain paramount.
