About the Role:
As a member of the team, the Director, Partner Engineering will build highly consultative trusted relationships with our strategic partners to provide business and technical thought leadership, and become a trusted advisor in solving mission-critical business and technical challenges with Planet data. This role combines technical and business skills to collaborate with our partners to ideate, scope, and bring Planet-powered features and products into the partners’ products, platforms, and apps. This will serve to grow the value we are able to provide to their customers and the world. In addition, you will be an internal advocate for our partners' needs, representing their input and feedback to drive feature innovation at the platform and product level. The ideal candidate will be able to understand and communicate deep technical topics, while working with stakeholders in different roles and levels of seniority on complex, highly visible initiatives.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Drive the technical success of our most strategic partners, guiding them to valuable, high-quality implementations of the Planet platform.
- Be at the forefront of technical discussions & solution deep-dives with partners on the value Planet can provide to their clients
- Provide technical consultation to partners, and work closely with them to troubleshoot and overcome technical hurdles.
- Engage with technical leads at key partners to share technology roadmaps, demonstrate the latest innovations
- Create and execute a strategy for improving our ability to help partners succeed with our products more easily and at greater scale in the future.
- Be a subject matter expert on the technical aspects of the platform, and how our partners use it
- Improve quality and value of Planet products by providing feedback and input to Planet’s product and engineering teams, influencing product roadmaps.
- Collaborate on technical content (sample code, demos, etc.) to show partners how to implement specific use cases or best practices
- Provide Partner-focused guidance on Planet’s product through feedback
What You Bring:
- 10+ years experience working in a technical software, including data products and API platforms
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and/or machine learning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead customer engagements.
- Ability to run workshops or training sessions with users.
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience processing imagery, manipulating vector data, creating geospatial web services, building APIs and/or building data processing pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with geospatial & software development in defense & intelligence, civil government or agriculture
- Experience programming javascript, especially interactive mapping applications
- Expertise in Sentinel Hub and/or Planet data
- Familiarity with statistical modeling and remote sensing spectral analyses
- Experience programming with Python
- Expertise with QGIS, Esri software, GDAL or other common geospatial software.

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $136,000 - $223,600. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (commission, bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
