About the Role:

Planet is seeking a proven Communications Manager; a strategic thinker who can manage teams and lead proactive and reactive communications campaigns. This person will report to the Head of Communications and will be responsible for daily communications activities, as well as working with Planet’s global executives, marketing team, commercial team, and technical teams to support Planet’s corporate objectives. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in earned media coverage to best support Planet’s communications. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to be in the San Francisco office 2-3 days/wk.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Serve as Team Lead by managing and leading daily communications activities. Conduct proactive and reactive media relations supporting company objectives, including corporate news/issues and thought leadership, customer announcements, and product launches
  • Manage internal and external projects from inception to completion, including strategy development, work plans, timelines, etc
  • Draft blogs, corporate announcements and media advisories supporting Planet's key industries (defense and intelligence, civil government, commercial)
  • Identify thought leadership opportunities through event speaking opportunities, contributed content, etc. and support spokespeople needs

What You Bring:

  • 5-8 years public relations or strategic communications experience, preferably having spent time at both at an agency and in house
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field of study
  • Excellent writing skills and comfortability editing and providing feedback on outbound communications
  • Experience working on digital campaigns and managing social media channels
  • Commitment to meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Proven track record of excellent judgment on deadline in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills and a willingness to collaborate across teams
  • Proven ability to progress team initiatives

EAR/ITAR Requirements:

This position requires access to export-controlled technology, and as such, and in accordance to applicable law, employment is only open to US citizens, US nationals, lawful permanent residents of the US or persons admitted to the US as an asylee or refugee.

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $128,400 - $160,500. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

This position requires access to export controlled technology, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access EAR and/or ITAR controlled technology pursuant to an export license approved by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
