Summary

skyTran has the potential to be the safest transportation system in the world – and you will be part of the team ensuring we meet that objective. You will need to find creative ways of pushing the boundaries of new technologies while guaranteeing the safety of people using the system.

The Senior Cost Engineer will work closely with the engineering team, ensuring use of design for cost concepts, establishing a should-cost tool, performing should-cost analyses, as well as contributing to Value Engineering projects. This position will ensure that the cost of the system under development is compiled, tracked, and meets design requirements. By this, you will play a vital role in the release, approval, and certification process of the system.

Job Description

  • Develop financial model, including should-cost analysis, and build and manage tools for skyTran projects and products from R&D phase through commercialization to improve product margins.
  • Collect, compile, confirm, and own project cost data from Technology Development, Installation & Ops, Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Vendors/Suppliers for actual project implementations.
  • Track and ensure cost performance targets are on track and cost reduction initiatives are addressed.
  • Implement Financial Risk Management Techniques and share with the design and Sr. Leadership teams.
  • Work closely with designers to implement design for cost methodologies and value engineering practices to define and get buy in on cost targets during formal design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Provide strong support on annual/ periodic budgeting.
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reporting of the financial performance to senior leadership.
  • Work tightly with Engineering, Product, Vendors, and Suppliers through Supply Chain Management to build and optimize the cost model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain.
  • MBA or MS degrees or other advanced degrees or certifications in finance/supply chain desired.
  • 6+ years of industry experience.
  • Direct experience with Should Cost, Design for Cost, and Value Engineering.
  • Prior experience with cost engineering in Transportation sectors preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost contributors both direct and indirect costs (material, labor).
  • Strong understanding of economics and development of rail and/or automotive transportation products.
  • Prior experience in end-to-end finance management for high technology products.
  • Understanding of innovative business models to improve the financial viability of projects.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Strong negotiation and partnership skills.
  • Highly analytical with advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
  • Ability to understand and redefine regulations and standards as optimally applicable to new technologies.
  • Good understanding of production ramp up including tooling.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience implementing change and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively.
