The role:
SoFi is searching for a Bank Controller with financial services expertise to lead the Company’s bank accounting functions.
The Bank Controllership team at SoFi, is part of the SoFi Controllership organization and is responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial, and regulatory reporting related to SoFi Bank, NA. This role will be a key leader carrying out Controllership’s strategy related to continued process improvement, scalability, and automation. The team leads the month end close process for banking and broker dealer products and partners closely with finance, treasury, operations, engineering, compliance and other teams across the enterprise to monitor product and business performance. The team prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators in compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements. This role will report to the VP of Accounting and will work with a mix of team members and key business partners across the enterprise.
The right person will have leadership experience in financial services, bring a strong point of view as a key member of the Controllership Leadership Team and contribute to our strategic vision and tactical execution to enhance the team's performance. The Bank Controller will also have strong experience in scaling people, processes, and systems in a high growth environment while establishing best-in-class processes and practices.
What you’ll do:
Lead all accounting and reporting activities at the Bank, partnering with Business leaders, Technology, and third-party providers to provide high-quality outcomes.
High-profile financial leader, leading key finance interactions with Bank leadership including President, CFO, committees and the Board, and external interactions including external auditors, regulators, and bank partners.
Ensures a framework and processes are established to meet relevant financial and regulatory requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), SEC and other relevant regulatory compliance, as needed.
Ensure that all reporting requirements are met; provides adequate structure and discipline around internal controls and closing process.
Lead and oversee all technical accounting analysis related to new products, deals and transactions, partnering closely with the Business in advising on terms in a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial business model.
Elevate controllership standards through digital transformation & automation, making process improvements including accelerating the close, and ensuring a strong control environment and financial integrity.
Proactively provide analysis/recommendations, monitor key performance indicators and conduct substantive, proactive analysis to raise emerging issues, threats, and opportunities to the leadership team.
Evaluate, recruit, and coach a world-class accounting team at all levels to support the business including providing employees career-broadening opportunities.
Coach and train the bank controllership organization on best-in-class accounting practices and processes.
Strategic partner with the Business to establish flexible and agile financial reporting processes to support new product launches and to identify and interpret business results.
Maintain a strong financial control environment including proper documentation with a focus on SOX and FDICIA controls.
Partner with cross functional teams and stakeholders (i.e., Corporate Finance and Strategy, Treasury, Capital Markets, Operations, and Technology).
What you’ll need:
10 plus years of related work experience in accounting and finance; bank specific accounting and regulatory experience highly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a CPA; Masters preferred.
Experience with bank regulatory examiners
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, and demonstrate confidence and competence in group meeting situations
Well organized, detailed, analytical individual with the ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting demands
Exceptional communication skills and team-oriented mindset
Must be adaptable to change and able to proactively manage priorities and goals in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
