About the Job
Research Associate I/II/Sr - Synthetic Biology
Company Description:
Think Bioscience is a fully integrated drug discovery company dedicated to developing life-saving medicines. Our creative, multidisciplinary team combines applied microbiology, enzymology, multi-dimensional screens, and data science to drug “undruggable” targets. Our best-in-class platform delivers novel scaffolds and pockets that accelerate drug development.
We are passionate about using innovative science to improve the lives of patients. Our team is our core—the key to our success. If you share our passion, let’s work together.
About the Position:
We are seeking a research associate with expertise in molecular biology, applied microbiology, and protein biochemistry. Experience with protein expression and/or purification, in vitro enzyme assays, laboratory automation, and/or next-generation sequencing is desired, but not required. You will report to the Director of Synthetic Biology. The successful applicant will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists on research projects in pursuit of novel small-molecule therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with scientists to plan and execute experiments related to genetic engineering, microplate-based screening, protein chemistry, metabolic pathway optimization, and the construction of synthetic genetic circuits
  • Assist in high-throughput screening campaigns to identify promising strains and molecules with desired functionalities
  • Develop and optimize assays to evaluate the performance of engineered biological systems, such as enzyme activity assays and reporter gene assays
  • Perform molecular cloning techniques, DNA assembly, and genetic transformation to engineer microbial strains for target production
  • Maintain stocks of microbial strains, plasmids, and other biological materials essential for ongoing research
  • Prepare reagents, culture cells, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Accurately record experimental data, perform data analysis, and assist in interpreting results. Present findings to the research team
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in synthetic biology and related fields to support the development of innovative approaches
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to contribute to a diverse range of projects and actively participate in group discussions and brainstorming sessions
  • Maintain a willingness to approach new challenges as the company grows
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience with molecular cloning and NGS library prep
  • Familiarity with safe and efficient laboratory practices
  • General scientific computer and software application proficiency
Preferred:
  • Experience with microbial cell culture and high-throughput screens
  • Experience with protein expression, purification, and biochemical analysis (e.g., enzyme assays or biophysical measurements)
  • Experience with environmental DNA/RNA samples
  • Familiarity with high throughput laboratory operations, including use of robotic liquid handlers and colony pickers
What We Offer:
  • Collaborative environment for innovative science and a mission-drive company
  • Opportunity for technical expansion and professional growth
  • Ability to influence key decisions in a fast-growing startup
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package, including a salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year (title and salary commensurate with experience)
