We are passionate about using innovative science to improve the lives of patients. Our team is our core—the key to our success. If you share our passion, let’s work together.
About the Position:
We are seeking a data scientist to exploit unique data sets and help guide future experiments. The candidate should have expertise in standard methods of network analysis, statistical analysis, machine learning (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, deep, and reinforcement learning), and data visualization. Experience with bioinformatics, omics data integration, natural language processing, anomaly detection, data mining and pattern recognition, and/or mathematical modeling of biological systems is desired, but not required. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex biochemical datasets, generating actionable insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the development of novel small-molecule therapeutics. You will work with the CTO and Director of Synthetic Biology, mentor junior staff, and work closely with our management team as a leader in a growing R&D organization.

Responsibilities:
- Process, clean, and analyze large-scale datasets, including data from biochemical assays, next-generation sequencing, (bio)chemical databanks, and multi-omics analyses, to extract valuable insights and patterns relevant to our research and drug development efforts.
- Apply advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques to develop predictive models, identify small-molecule hits, and optimize screening workflows.
- Collaborate with synthetic biologists, bioinformaticians, and researchers to design experiments and studies that generate data suitable for analysis and modeling.
- Create clear and informative visualizations to communicate complex data and analysis results effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of databases and data infrastructure to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and integration.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, biotechnology, and relevant technologies to bring innovative solutions to our projects.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain a high-quality Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN).
- Work closely with scientists, researchers, and various teams across the organization to address research questions, optimize workflows, and support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience handling and analyzing large-scale biological datasets, such as genomics, proteomics, or clinical data.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or similar, with experience using data manipulation and analysis libraries.
- Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, and their application to biological data.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to present findings and ideas clearly to diverse audiences, and written communication, organization, teamwork, and creativity).
What We Offer:
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Plotly, or ggplot, to effectively communicate insights.
- Familiarity with molecular biology, cell biology, and drug discovery processes.
- Familiarity with—or interest in—cheminformatics tools (e.g., RDKit, Open Babel, ChemAxon, Marvin Suite, KNIME, MOE, ChemDraw, JChem, and Chemicalize).
- Industrial experience in synthetic biology and/or preclinical R&D for small molecule candidate therapeutics and a familiarity with the drug discovery process (e.g., biology, pharmacology, toxicity, and industry trends).
- In person, but we will consider remote work for exceptional candidates.
What We Offer:
- Collaborative environment for innovative science and a mission-drive company
- Opportunity for technical expansion and professional growth
- Ability to influence key decisions in a fast-growing startup
- Competitive compensation and benefits package, including a salary range of $100,000 - $180,000 per year (title and salary commensurate with experience)
