About the Role
As Uber continues to grow, our tax team also needs to expand to meet new business challenges. We are looking to add a motivated Global Indirect Senior Tax Analyst within the Tax and Reporting CoE (Center of Excellence) based in Bangalore India with a positive, can-do attitude to our Tax Reporting team.
The Indirect tax reporting team will be responsible for the monthly / quarterly / Annual Tax compliance for APAC, LATAM, EMEA and US&C regions. This team will be responsible to extracts and interprets the tax data from our systems to enable informed business decisions, perform return filing and reconciling with the books of accounts on the Tax positions. Our focus keeps moving towards improving our tax processes by using Technology more and more. This focus increases our responsibility for monitoring the completeness and accuracy in our indirect tax systems, striving for full tax automation, and driving the vision for improved and efficient tax compliance of not only Uber but also of our partners (Driver, Couriers, Restaurants, Carriers and Shippers). This is very exciting especially with the upcoming changes in taxation of digital services.
Our team consists of a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds across consulting, tax, accounting, and analytics. We often have to employ unique approaches to solve mission critical challenges. You will have strong project management skills as you’ll drive cross-border projects (APAC, LATAM, EMEA, US&C) and develop best practice in processes on an international level. You’ll be a strong team player who is able to work with people across the organization.

The role will report to the Global Indirect Tax Reporting Manager and work closely with other members of the reporting and tax team to manage requests and support the Reporting function. The Reporting Senior Associates responsibility extends to working closely with the third party global reporting and compliance partner(s) for the assigned entities to drive efficiency for this function
What You'll Do
- Lead the transition Global VAT/GST/Sales Tax Compliance from regional centers to Global CoE. This includes coordinating and managing local country compliance partner, reviewing or preparing Returns filing and IDT GL account Balance Sheet Recons reviews.
- Project Manage and Design & Report compliance Trackers to the Indirect Tax Technical regional teams and the regional Country Controllers.
- Ensure timely, accurate and complete Entity Tax filing along with our tax partners and third party support across APAC, EMEA, LATAM & US&C region. (Region will be assigned as appropriate)
- Ensure monthly / Quarterly IDT Balance sheet recons are prepared at highest quality and all open items are closed within the due date assigned.
- Monitor, review and guide our service provider to ensure high standard of quality and timely delivery of assigned task delivery.
- Assist in Notice management from Tax authorities and Tax advisory team.
- Review and validate our global revenue and indirect tax system configurations working closely with our data operations team to close the correct set up.
- Automate and standardize our indirect tax data extraction and calculations with the Data science and Data Ops Project Managers.
- Build, maintain and own; invoice vs. indirect tax vs. revenue accounting reconciliations globally.
- Prepare Tax forecast and dashboards for Management, Strategic Finance and Treasury ops.
- Standardise audit support for indirect tax and reconciliations.
- Historic review of global Indirect Tax and Revenue.
- Track and report; revenue, indirect tax and invoicing issues; automation projects; and management visualization dashboards.
- Support and lead the team on ad hoc projects aiming to improve global tax and compliance reporting and tax efficiency.
- Coordinate the building of automation and review tools using Alteryx / Tableau / SQL / Machine learning / Python etc.
- Participate in transformation and automation projects with the Tax tech and Fintech teams.
What You'll Need
- Accounting Degree - CA / ACCA / CPA / CIMA / MBA
- Work experience: 6+ years
- Worked in Big 4 in Indirect Tax domain or fast paced Industry in IDT teams. ( Working in Industry a plus)
- Degree in finance, accounting, tax and/or other related field(s).
- Robust knowledge of MS Excel and/or logic based tools (e.g. advanced excel models, Tableau/Alteryx).
- Experience in indirect tax and ability to apply globally.
- Experience with complex revenue systems involving several levels of upstream data and a wide range of global products, discounts and adjustment types.
- Ability to work through huge data volumes and extract the truth.
- Good English written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-driven, extremely critical, ‘can-do’ attitude and a positive outlook.
- Comfortable working through solutions with a wide range of subject matter experts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience.
- Tax and/or financial audit experience.
- Experience with automated solutions and visualization tools such as Alteryx and Tableau.
- A second language – Spanish / Portuguese / French / Chinese (preferred Not Mandatory)
