About the Role

Uber Direct enables merchants to unlock last-mile delivery by tapping into Uber's expansive logistics network and marketplace. Delivering a high-quality, reliable experience is central to our value proposition—ensuring orders are fulfilled efficiently, consistently, and at scale.

As a Strategy & Operations Manager on Uber Direct’s Growth Operations team, you will lead new merchant deal support for Retail merchants across the commercial lifecycle—from early business planning and merchant discovery through solution design, pitching support, and launch readiness.

You will partner closely with Account Executives, Direct Specialists, Product, Partner Engineering, Merchant Operations, Reliability, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to develop compelling, operationally credible solutions that help merchants choose Uber Direct. You will translate merchant business needs into scalable operating models, identify capability gaps and implementation risks, and ensure commitments made during the sales process are clearly documented and transitioned to post-sale teams.

This role requires strong commercial judgement, structured problem solving, and the ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels. You will be expected to proactively shape opportunities, influence merchant solutions, and roll up your sleeves to move complex deals from prospecting through Closed Won and Launch.

What You’ll Do

  • Commercial Business Planning: Partner with Retail commercial leaders to develop account plans, review books of business, identify whitespace opportunities, and prioritize merchants based on strategic value, merchant needs, and Uber Direct capabilities
  • Deal Support and Pitching: Serve as the operational and product expert for priority Retail opportunities. Develop merchant-specific solution narratives, quantify value, validate operational and contractual commitments, support pricing strategy, and position Uber Direct’s current capabilities and future roadmap
  • Functional Solution Design: Translate merchant requirements into a scalable and operationally feasible Uber Direct solution. Define the proposed operating model, document assumptions and design decisions, assess custom requests, identify capability dependencies, and align requirements across Commercial, Product, Partner Engineering, and Legal
  • Process Improvement: Identify recurring merchant needs, capability gaps, and deal blockers. Develop scalable frameworks, playbooks, templates, and operating processes that improve sales velocity, win rates, and merchant experience across the Retail portfolio
  • Business and Product Insights: Synthesize merchant feedback, competitive intelligence, and deal learnings into recommendations for commercial strategy, product planning, and operational improvements

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience in strategy and operations, consulting, business operations, technology, product operations, supply chain, retail, grocery, logistics, or a related field
  • Strong data management skills in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Experience in data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, or Power BI)
  • Bachelor degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL proficiency is highly preferred
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience developing business strategies, operational processes, or merchant-facing solutions
  • Experience supporting enterprise sales, strategic partnerships, solution design, implementation, or commercial deal development
  • Experience in Grocery, Retail, E-commerce, logistics, last-mile delivery, or fulfillment operations
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to translate customer challenges into clear, differentiated solutions
  • Experience conducting merchant prospecting and developing account plans, pitch narratives, functional designs, or implementation strategies
  • Strong project-management skills, including the ability to manage complex workstreams, dependencies, decisions, and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders and external partners
  • Ability to simplify complex product, technical, and operational concepts for commercial and merchant audiences
  • Experience using data, merchant insights, and business judgment to evaluate alternatives and make recommendations
  • Ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous, rapidly evolving environment while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to take ownership, identify gaps, and independently drive work from initial problem definition through launch transition
