Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you'll play a pivotal role within our team, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems for advanced manufacturing processes. Collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary team members, you will actively participate in creating innovative solutions to enhance manufacturing efficiency. Demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and an enthusiastic willingness to learn will be crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members from various disciplines to identify project priorities, define hardware requirements, and navigate design constraints for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in design review meetings, providing valuable feedback to enhance team efforts.
  • Develop solutions for path planning and control of mechanical systems.
  • Operate and test mechanical systems to implement new features effectively.
  • Design, implement, and integrate sensors, along with supporting hardware and firmware.
  • Rapidly prototype to validate design concepts, ensuring a balance between short-term objectives and long-term goals.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent work/study experience.
  • Background in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on controls, motion planning, simulation, and sensor integration.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods for modeling complex systems, including experience with machine learning.
  • Strong grasp of mechanical system kinematics and dynamics.
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of hardware development principles and practices within a team.

Nice to Have’s

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM packages, especially OnShape, Solidworks, or PowerMill.
  • Exposure to industrial robots, such as Kuka.
  • Practical experience with various manufacturing processes, including milling, printing, welding, etc.
